Supporting Students, Strengthening Our Industry

Last week, the New Mexico Building Education Foundation proudly awarded $7,000 in scholarship support to two outstanding students: Barsha Khanal and Arisvet “Ari” Garay. Both recipients are active members of the AGC UNM Student Chapter and are preparing to become part of the next generation of construction industry leaders.

Meet Barsha Khanal

Barsha Khanal received two scholarships:

NMBEF Undergraduate Scholarship - $2,500

NMBEF Empower Her: Dr. Deb Fisher Women of Construction Scholarship - $2,000

Growing up in Nepal, Barsha experienced the devastating 2015 earthquake firsthand. The experience showed her the critical role infrastructure plays in protecting communities and supporting recovery. It inspired her to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Barsha is an active member of the AGC UNM Student Chapter. Her determination and commitment to building safer, stronger communities embody the purpose of both scholarship programs.

Meet Arisvet “Ari” Garay

Arisvet “Ari” Garay received the NMBEF Undergraduate Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

Coming from a construction family, Ari was introduced to the industry at an early age. Once she learned about construction engineering, she knew she had found the career path she wanted to pursue.

Ari’s long-term goal is to own a construction company. She is also an active member of the AGC UNM Student Chapter and will serve as the chapter’s treasurer this year.

Building the Future of Construction

The NMBEF Undergraduate Scholarship supports New Mexico students pursuing degrees in construction and construction-related engineering. The Empower Her: Dr. Deb Fisher Women of Construction Scholarship helps women pursue educational and professional opportunities throughout the construction industry.

Barsha and Ari represent the talent, leadership, and determination our industry needs. We are proud to support their education and look forward to seeing everything they accomplish.
