AGC NM’s Members-Only Contractor Event Delivers Powerful Career Connections for 100+ UNM Students

AGC New Mexico hosted its exclusive Members-Only Meet the Contractors Showcase, delivering a high-impact, no-nonsense look at careers in commercial construction for over 100 students from UNM’s construction and engineering programs. Designed intentionally for AGC member contractors, the event gave students direct access to the companies shaping New Mexico’s commercial construction landscape.

Held on campus at UNM, the model was fast, structured, and intentional. Students moved through six-minute rotations, giving a focused snapshot of career expectations, company culture, and real opportunities. Just real conversations with New Mexico’s top prime contractors.

A Strong Partnership with UNM

This event would not have been possible without the continued support of UNM Department Chair Dr. Susan Bogus and the dedicated UNM faculty. Their commitment to building strong, career-ready pathways for students is exactly what keeps New Mexico’s workforce pipeline moving in the right direction. Their collaboration ensured the event was well-organized, well-supported, and aligned with student needs.

Setting the Bar for Workforce Development

This members-only showcase is part of AGC New Mexico’s broader strategy to strengthen the pipeline between education and industry. It gives employers a clear, structured way to identify talent early and gives students real insight into the expectations and opportunities within commercial construction—union and open-shop alike.

Students walked away with two clear takeaways:

  1. Construction is a high-opportunity profession that rewards skill, grit, and initiative.

  2. AGC NM members are leading the way in safety, professionalism, and workforce development across New Mexico.

Looking Ahead

With strong turnout and overwhelmingly positive feedback, AGC NM plans to expand this model and integrate it into upcoming workforce initiatives.

This wasn’t a career fair. It was a purpose-built, contractor-led recruiting experience, and it delivered.
