AGC New Mexico Represents the Industry at National Chapter Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

Last week, AGC New Mexico officers and members from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. for the National Chapter Leadership Conference (NCLC). The conference brought together chapter executives, contractors, and industry leaders to discuss the most pressing issues facing construction while engaging directly with federal policymakers.
As part of the program, attendees heard from Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.), a former electrical contractor, who emphasized the urgent need for greater workforce investment and meaningful permitting reform.
Building on his remarks, AGC members, including your New Mexico delegation, went to Capitol Hill to meet directly with lawmakers and their staff.
Strong Representation for New Mexico
AGC New Mexico held productive meetings with our state’s congressional delegation, pressing for the industry’s top federal priorities. We were joined by an AGC of America policy staffer, who commended our approach and delivery during these conversations.
The primary issues we addressed included:
-
Workforce Development – Expanding career and technical education, reforming the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and reversing the higher education bias against non-degree programs.
-
Immigration Reform – Supporting temporary visas for workers, ensuring the H-2B program remains viable, and advancing the bipartisan Dignity Act to strengthen borders while modernizing immigration policy.
These conversations showcased the real-world impact federal policies have on New Mexico contractors, workers, and communities.
Advancing Federal Priorities
AGC members nationwide aligned around the 2025–2026 Federal Legislative and Regulatory Priorities, designed to strengthen the construction industry’s role in America’s economy. Key principles include:
-
Increase investment in public and private construction to support jobs and growth
-
Improve the pipeline for a safe, trained, and diverse workforce
-
Preserve balance in federal labor policy
-
Address supply chain challenges and project delays
-
Ensure tax policies promote entrepreneurship and growth
-
Support cost-effective, practical regulations
-
Streamline federal procurement to boost competition and small business opportunities
-
Advance infrastructure investment and permitting reform
-
Protect contractors from unfair liability (PFAS, tariffs, Buy America uncertainty)
-
Invest in critical water and broadband projects
By engaging directly with elected officials, AGC New Mexico continues to ensure that our state’s construction industry has a strong and unified voice in Washington.
