AGC-NM Building Branch Partners With Escuela Del Sol Students To Create Original Art For Best Buildings Awards

The Associated General Contractors-New Mexico Building Branch celebrated its 21st annual Best Buildings Awards Celebration on Saturday, March 13th at Isleta Resort and Casino. The Best Buildings contest honors excellence in commercial, public and institutional building construction in the state of New Mexico.

A highlight of this year's ceremony was the artwork featured on the framed awards received by the owners, general contractors, specialty contractor professionals, and architectural/engineering professionals of each winning project. A special collaboration between AGC-NM Building Branch and Escuela del Sol - Albuquerque's oldest independent Montessori school – included students ages 7 through 11 using photographs of the 2010 Best Buildings to inspire unique drawings and paintings.

"AGC-NM Building Branch is grateful for the wonderful collaboration with Escuela del Sol's elementary art program that resulted in this year's special awards for Best Buildings. The recipients were thrilled to receive an award featuring a student's original work of art inspired by their project", said AGC-NM Building Branch CEO Vicki Mora.

"We were so pleased to partner with AGC-NM Building Branch in this way - our students really enjoyed the project and are so proud of their work," said Escuela del Sol's Director of Communications Kristina Nguyen. "The particular sense of color and composition our students bring to their artwork is always amazing - they really show us the world through new eyes," said Escuela del Sol's Elementary Art Teacher Vashti Gamble.

Unlike most building award contests, the Best Buildings nominees are judged on the complexity of the construction process and challenges such as budget, site constraints, schedule, and project delivery method. AGC members construct the "Best Buildings" in New Mexico, and this event provides an opportunity to celebrate their achievements. The Industry Choice Award winners are chosen by a vote of the membership for "Pursuit of Best Practices" in: (1) approach to conducting business, (2) dealings with customers, clients, employees, and peers, and (3) quality performance with respect to products and/or services.
